How Did it All Start?
The idea of a U3A started in France in 1972 with
the first English branch being formed in Cambridge 10 years later. There
are now in excess of 1000 groups in the UK with over 400,000 members.
The South Woodham Ferrers group was started in 2006 and currently has
more than 280 members. Because of its popularity a second group,
Crouch
Valley
was started up a few years later.
